Forced migration and labour market outcomes of Ukrainians in Italy

The recent wave of forced migration from Ukraine has generated significant challenges for host countries, particularly with respect to the labour market integration of displaced individuals. Italy has received a substantial number of Ukrainian refugees, whose employment opportunities and economic inclusion are shaped by a combination of individual characteristics, migration trajectories, and institutional factors.
This research project investigates the labour market outcomes of Ukrainians living in Italy, with a focus on the effects of forced migration on employment status, job quality, and labour market participation. To collect original evidence, an online survey targeting Ukrainians residing in Italy has been developed and made available in Ukrainian in order to maximize accessibility and participation.
The survey gathers information on socio-demographic characteristics, educational background, employment history, migration experience, legal status, and barriers to labour market integration. The analysis aims to identify the main determinants of employment outcomes and to assess the extent to which forced displacement affects occupational opportunities and economic vulnerability.
The findings will contribute to the understanding of refugee labour market integration in Italy and provide evidence to inform policies aimed at improving access to employment and supporting the economic inclusion of forced migrants.
