International Workshop
II Workshop on Sovereign Debt
CefES International Workshop
21 February 2025 - University of Milano-Bicocca, Building U6, Fourth floor, Sala Rodolfi
Workshop description
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, sovereign debt—already at record-high levels since World War II—surged rapidly, exposing many countries to the risk of severe yield spikes and debt restructuring. The threat of a prolonged economic slowdown, further exacerbated by ongoing geopolitical turmoil, makes the prospect of a global debt crisis increasingly imminent. This workshop explores the economic, social, and political consequences of sovereign debt overhang and default. It considers both developing and advanced economies, as debt servicing challenges have become a pressing issue for both groups in the post-pandemic era. Bringing together leading scholars in the field, this international workshop aims to foster discussion and advance research on sovereign debt.
