| Demographic Changes and Enriched Society: Promoting Cultural Diversity and Social Inclusion in Higher Education in Italy |
Abstract:
Major demographic shifts have increased diversity in advanced countries. Italy, in particular, faces both population aging and demographic decline while transitioning from a country of emigration to a major destination for young migrants and asylum seekers. These changes create challenges for social integration at the local level, including prejudice, discrimination, and xenophobia toward immigrants and minority groups.
This project studies how education programs can shape young people’s attitudes toward immigrants and cultural diversity to support more effective integration policies. It conducts a randomized evaluation of “Migration au-delà des préjugés – MADP” (Migration, Beyond Prejudice), a program designed to promote intercultural dialogue and social inclusion by encouraging students to challenge stereotypes and view cultural diversity as a value. This is a joint project with Sara Giunti (University of Pavia) and Andrea Guariso (University of Milano Bicocca).
